Google Play Console Statistics - Deep dive
Understanding the all the install and uninstall metrics in Google play console statistics.
Sometimes, it gets overwhelming to check and understand the various types of install & uninstall numbers in Google Play Console.
I will explain them in this newsletter in a structured manner.
To start, we can categorize install and uninstall data in the play console into three levels.
User level
Device level &
Event level
User-level reports
At the user level, data is aggregated using user login information, specifically email addresses. Almost all Android devices have an email ID associated with them, and Google uses this to define a user.
This means a single user can have multiple devices linked to an ID. As your app matures, the number of installs per user increases. Some of the common reasons are
Multiple device usage by a one-person
Device change by a user while the old device is kept active
This number ranges from 1.3 to 1.6 for an app with 7+ years of existence.
In play console statistics, you will have three data at the user level.
Installed Audience
User Acquisition
User loss
Device-level reports
The device-level reports focus on active devices with the app installed. This metric includes pre-install activations, which are crucial if you are running an app pre-burn campaign with device OEMS.
The mobile measurement platforms we use for install attribution define the installation at the device level. Hence, the device-level install numbers in the Play console are comparable to those reported by your MMP.
You will get three pieces of data at the device level, like the user level.
Install base
Device Acquisition
Device loss
Event-level reports
Lastly, the event level captures data based on specific actions or events related to the app. However, event data does not account for pre-installs. So, event installs are always lower compared to device-level installs.
At the event level, you will get two data.
Install Events
Uninstall events
The device loss data(mentioned above) includes app device loss due to uninstall and loss due to device inactivity. In event data, the uninstall event doesn’t include device loss due to inactivity.
That is for this newsletter. Will see you in the next edition. If you have any questions, share them below.
